Conrad Maldives Rangali Island · Underwater Residence · Indian Ocean
The world's first luxury underwater residence — a two-level private sanctum at Conrad Maldives Rangali Island where the master bedroom rests 16 feet below the Indian Ocean, cocooned by living coral and a 180-degree acrylic dome. Above water: an infinity pool, sunrise and sunset decks, private gym, and full butler and private chef service. The most extraordinary address on earth.
The Muraka is the world's first luxury underwater residence — a singular creation at Conrad Maldives Rangali Island, a resort built on two natural Maldivian islands connected by a bridge above the Indian Ocean. The residence was conceived as the absolute pinnacle of Maldivian overwater architecture: a two-level structure where the upper level sits above the ocean with an infinity pool, sunrise deck, sunset deck, and full overwater living spaces, while the lower level descends 16 feet beneath the surface of the Indian Ocean into a master bedroom suite enclosed by a 180-degree acrylic dome.
The underwater master suite is entirely circular — a bedroom encased in structural acrylic through which the living coral, reef fish, rays, and occasional sharks of the South Ari Atoll drift continuously past. The underwater sitting room, bathroom, and rain shower complete the below-surface level. The acrylic dome is engineered to the same specifications used in submarine windows and commercial aquarium architecture. Above water, the residence extends to 550 square metres: a kitchen, dining room, bar, private gym, two additional overwater bedrooms, and multiple decks.
Conrad Maldives Rangali Island is itself one of the most celebrated resorts on earth — home to the Ithaa Undersea Restaurant (the world's first all-glass underwater restaurant), the ESPA overwater spa, and multiple dining venues including the Sunset Grill. The South Ari Atoll is a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve and one of the world's most reliable sites for whale shark and manta ray encounters. The Muraka includes a private butler and private chef for the duration of the stay. A dedicated marine guide is available for house reef snorkelling directly from the private jetty.
The Muraka occupies 550 square metres across two levels — above and below the Indian Ocean. The underwater master suite features a king-size bed, double vanity, and rain shower enclosed by the 180-degree acrylic dome. The circular bedroom provides an unobstructed 360-degree view of the Indian Ocean reef environment, with marine life visible at all hours day and night through the surrounding acrylic panels.
Above the waterline, two additional overwater bedrooms accommodate four more guests, each with en-suite bathrooms and ocean views. The private infinity pool is set at the edge of the overwater deck. A private gym, kitchen, full bar, dining room, and the sunrise and sunset decks complete the above-water residence. A dedicated private butler manages all logistics, transfers, and requests throughout the stay.
The Muraka includes a dedicated private chef for the entire stay. All meals are designed in consultation with the group before arrival — from early morning breakfasts on the sunrise deck above the ocean to multi-course dinners on the overwater terrace under Maldivian stars. The private chef sources the finest fresh seafood and tropical produce available on the island, preparing menus to the precise preferences of the guests.
Conrad Maldives is home to the Ithaa Undersea Restaurant — the world's first all-glass undersea restaurant, set 16 feet below the Indian Ocean with 270-degree panoramic views of the coral reef while dining. Dinner at Ithaa is one of the included experiences in the package. The Sunset Grill, Mandhoo Restaurant, and the resort's multiple dining venues are available for additional meals throughout the stay.
