"Aman's philosophy of privacy and design, applied to the timeless beauty of the Italian coast."
The Journey

Design and
Seclusion

Italy has been the destination of the serious traveller for four centuries — and the Amalfi Coast has been the subject of Mediterranean desire for almost as long. The vertical landscape of limestone cliffs dropping directly to the Tyrrhenian Sea, the villages accessible only by sea or by a single winding road, the particular light of the southern Italian coast in the long summer afternoons: these are not qualities that require improvement. They require only the right framework in which to experience them.

This seven-day itinerary begins in Rome — two days in the city that has been accumulating extraordinary things for two thousand years, staying at the Hotel de Russie, which has occupied its position above the Piazza del Popolo since the nineteenth century and has been refined by Rocco Forte into perhaps the finest urban hotel in the Italian capital. From Rome, embarkation aboard the Aman Yacht — the Amanikan — which carries the Aman philosophy of privacy, restraint, and anticipatory service into Mediterranean waters.

The Amanikan carries a maximum of twenty-four guests. Every suite faces outward. The vessel moves at a pace determined by the wind and the preferences of its guests rather than a commercial schedule. The Amalfi Coast, approached from the sea, reveals itself in the only way it was designed to be seen: the cliff villages appearing above the water one by one, the terraced lemon groves catching the morning light, and the harbours of Positano and Ravello accessible without the crowds that the road brings. Capri from the water. Monastero Santa Rosa for the final land-based night — a former seventeenth-century convent on a cliff above the sea, with a pool that appears to extend directly into the Tyrrhenian.

Signature Moments

Six Encounters
with the Italian Coast

The Amalfi Coast has been the subject of desire for centuries. Aboard the Amanikan, you encounter it in the only way it was designed to be seen.

01
Rome — Two Days Before the Sea Begins
The Hotel de Russie above the Piazza del Popolo, the Borghese Gallery by private appointment, and dinner at the restaurant that has been feeding the Roman cultural class since the nineteenth century.
02
The Amalfi Coast Arriving from the Sea
Positano, Ravello, and the cliff villages appearing above the water one by one — the only perspective from which the coast reveals its true geography, without the road's compression.
03
Capri from the Water — Before the Day Boats Arrive
Anchored in the Faraglioni's shadow at first light, the Blue Grotto by private tender before the tourist programme begins — Capri as it exists before commerce claims it for the day.
04
Twenty-Four Guests Aboard the Amanikan
A maximum of 24 guests, every suite facing outward, the vessel moving at a pace determined by preference rather than schedule — the Aman philosophy at sea, without compromise.
05
Ravello — Villa Cimbrone Above the Cloud Line
The Belvedere of Infinity terrace with the Tyrrhenian four hundred metres below — the view that Greta Garbo described as the closest to heaven she had been, at the hour when the morning mist clears.
06
Monastero Santa Rosa — Final Night on the Cliff
A seventeenth-century convent above Conca dei Marini, converted into twelve suites — the pool appearing to extend directly into the Tyrrhenian, the lemon groves below, and the coast road entirely inaudible.

What Defines This Journey

01
Aman Yacht — Amanikan
24 guests maximum. Every suite facing outward. The Amanikan carries Aman's philosophy — privacy, restraint, the anticipation of what has not yet been requested — into Mediterranean waters. The vessel moves when the guests are ready; it anchors where the light is best.
02🏛️
Rome — Two Thousand Years of Accumulation
Two days in the city that has been accumulating extraordinary things longer than any other: the Pantheon, the Borghese Gallery's Bernini sculptures, the private gardens above the Pincio. Staying at the Hotel de Russie — Rocco Forte's finest work, above the Piazza del Popolo.
03🌊
Amalfi Coast from the Sea
The Amalfi Coast approached by water — the only correct direction of arrival. Villages appearing above the cliff line one by one; terraced lemon groves in the morning light; harbours accessible without the road that brings the crowds. Positano, Ravello, and Amalfi town from a tender anchored in their respective bays.
04🏝️
Capri — The Island Above the Water
Capri from the sea — the Faraglioni rocks visible from the anchorage, the Blue Grotto accessible by rowing boat in the morning before the queues form, and the Gardens of Augustus above the village of Marina Piccola. The island at its most concentrated, without the obligation of the funicular.
05🏰
Monastero Santa Rosa — Cliff Above the Sea
A seventeenth-century Dominican convent on a cliff above Conca dei Marini, converted into one of the most dramatically positioned hotels on the Amalfi Coast. The infinity pool extends over the sea; the terraced gardens fall toward the water; the silence is protected by the geography of the cliff itself.
06🎨
Low-Density Luxury — Design and Privacy
The Aman philosophy applied throughout: maximum 24 guests aboard; a convent hotel with a limited number of suites; a programme that avoids the crowded moments and finds the unoccupied ones. Italy, experienced at the density that allows it to be genuinely perceived.

Key Moments & Movements

The Amalfi Coast is at its most extraordinary in May, June, and September — before and after the summer crowds that the single coastal road concentrates with considerable efficiency. The sea reaches swimming temperature in June; the light in September is unmatched. The itinerary works in all three months.

Every Richseen journey is individually crafted. Your private consultant will tailor each day to your preferences, pace, and passions.

Day 1
Rome Arrival
Private transfer from Rome Fiumicino Airport to the Hotel de Russie — positioned above the Piazza del Popolo, at the northern edge of the historic centre, with its celebrated secret garden and the Pincio hill above. Evening: the Trastevere neighbourhood for the particular atmosphere of Rome after nine in the evening, when the city becomes itself again.
Hotel de Russie, Rome
Day 2
Rome — The Accumulated City
Morning: the Borghese Gallery — Bernini's sculptures of Apollo and Daphne and the Rape of Proserpina, which are among the most extraordinary things made by human hands in the seventeenth century, in a villa surrounded by the most elegant park in Rome. Afternoon: the Pantheon, the Piazza Navona, the Campo de' Fiori. Evening: dinner in the neighbourhood immediately north of the Piazza del Popolo, which the Romans have not yet surrendered to the guides.
Hotel de Russie, Rome
Day 3
Embark Aman Yacht — Amanikan
Transfer south from Rome toward Naples or Civitavecchia for embarkation aboard the Amanikan. The vessel clears the harbour as the Italian coast begins its southward curve toward Campania. The first evening: dinner on the open deck as the Pontine Islands appear on the western horizon and the Tyrrhenian Sea settles into its evening posture.
Aman Yacht — Amanikan
Day 4
Amalfi Coast — Villages from the Sea
The Amanikan approaches the Amalfi Coast from the south in the early morning — the cliff villages appearing above the water one by one as the vessel moves north. Tender to Positano: the stacked pastel houses above the beach, the narrow streets, the particular light of a village that faces southwest and catches the afternoon sun. To Ravello by road from Amalfi town: the Villa Cimbrone gardens above the sea, where Gore Vidal lived for thirty years and understood something the rest of us are still learning.
Aman Yacht — Amanikan, Amalfi Coast
Day 5
Capri — The Island at Its Best
The Amanikan anchors in the Bay of Naples in the morning. Tender to Capri before the day boats arrive from Naples: the Blue Grotto by rowing boat, accessible only in the morning calm; the Gardens of Augustus above Marina Piccola; the Faraglioni rocks from the water. The island from the sea is a different island entirely from the island reached by ferry. Return aboard for lunch as the day visitors fill the funicular.
Aman Yacht — Amanikan, Capri
Day 6
Amalfi — Monastero Santa Rosa
Disembarkation at Amalfi and transfer to Monastero Santa Rosa — the former Dominican convent on the cliff above Conca dei Marini. The property has twelve suites; the infinity pool extends over the Tyrrhenian Sea; the terraced gardens are the product of four centuries of careful cultivation by women who understood that beauty is its own form of contemplation. An afternoon of complete stillness before the final evening.
Monastero Santa Rosa
Day 7
Departure — The Coast Recedes
Breakfast above the Tyrrhenian Sea before private transfer to Naples International Airport or onward journey by road. The Amalfi Coast is visible from the coast road until the road turns inland and the sea disappears behind the hills of Campania.

Exclusive Experiences

Moments Designed for You

🏛️
Art
Borghese Gallery — Bernini's Rome
The Galleria Borghese holds the greatest concentration of Bernini sculptures in existence — Apollo and Daphne, the Rape of Proserpina, David — in a villa surrounded by Rome's most elegant park. Entry requires advance reservation; the experience requires nothing else.
🚣
Natural Wonder
Blue Grotto — Capri at First Light
The Blue Grotto is accessible only by rowing boat, only through an entrance that requires passengers to lie flat, and only in the morning calm before the sea rises. The light inside — refracted through an underwater opening — turns the water an extraordinary electric blue that no description adequately prepares the visitor for.
🍋
Landscape
Ravello — Villa Cimbrone Gardens
Above the Amalfi Coast, where the road ends and the view begins: the Villa Cimbrone gardens extend to a belvedere above the sea that has been described — by everyone who has stood there — as the most beautiful view in the world. Gore Vidal lived in Ravello for thirty years and found no reason to revise this assessment.
🌅
Arrival
Amalfi Coast from the Sea — The Only Approach
The Amalfi Coast was designed to be approached from the sea — the cliff villages visible above the water one by one, the terraced lemon groves descending toward the surface, and Positano's stacked pastel houses appearing exactly as they have appeared in every painting of the coast since the nineteenth century. The road arrives from behind. The sea arrives correctly.
